Mawat Spring Camporee- April 27th - 29th
Mawat's Spring Camporee was held at Camp Reeves with the theme of Iron Scout. An easy orientation course took the patrols to different activities such as canoeing for fastest time, an obstacle course, riflery at the rifle range, and even BMX biking. This was also the first trip with the new Troop trailer which made packing easy.
Lake Michie - March 30th - April 1st
Keeping it close to home, we went to Lake Michie and camped at the Holly Grove group campsite. This site has pleanty of room, privacy, and a nice size field to run around in. Several members tryed their luck at fishing but Jacob was the only one who caught something big enough to eat, which he did. Even though it rained Friday night until lunchtime on Saturday, no one really got wet or was miserable.
Williamsburg - February 24th - 26th
This was our bigger trip for the year so we went stayed at the Jamestown, VA 4-H Center, toured Colonial Williamsburg, checked out the big outlet mall, and stuffed ourselves silly with all you can eat pizza at CiCi's. Returned home on Sunday via the ferry. Overall a very nice trip.

For the January trip, we camped at Camp Cherokee. Everyone survived below freezing temps. Camp Cherokee looks very different in the winter that the summer

Winter COH & Christmas Party - December 12th
We held the winter Court of Honor to recognize several scouts' rank advancements and merit badges earned since October. This was followed up by the annual troop Christmas Party and Dirty Santa gift exchange.
Ryan's Eagle Project Workday - December 10th
Shots of the December 10th workday for Ryan's Eagle project. Ryan's project was the renovation of the birdhouses and feeders and the construction of a raised garden for wheelchair-bound students at Easley Elementary. Great idea Ryan!
Troop Thanksgiving - November 12th
Even though we couldn't go camping, the boys still wanted to have a cooking competion and invite the families to share dinner with us. They BBQ'd a couple of pork shoulders while the patrols made sides and desserts. There was some really good food to be had here.
Bennett Place - October 21st - 23rd
This weekend we went to some place really close. Bennett Place is a 3/4 of a mile up the road from our meeting place. We used this weekend to finish the Orienteering Merit Badge. Hiked in. Did a couple of orienteering course, and then toured the museum and cabins. Some of the boys enjoyed watching the Amtrack and frieght trains go by.
Camp Cambell on Kerr Lake - September 9th - 11th
Enjoyed a really nice weekend up on Kerr Lake at Camp Campbell. Only 8 of us went but we did achieve the distinction of having 100% in hammocks. Everyone enjoyed fishing, swimming, and just being lazy.
Shining RockWilderness - August 19th - 21st
We decided it was time to head for the mountains and do a more rugged backpacking trip. We went to the Shining Rock Wilderness off the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked over and around some 6000+ foot mountains. We survived nightly downpours and enjoyed some spectcular views.
Summer Camp - July 3rd - 9th
A week at Camp Cherokee for our usual fun of taking merit badges, being lazy, and having a huge water balloon war with the waterfront staff. Temps in the upper 80's weren't too bad and we only had rain once during the day but 4 times at night. We even got to watch Chris in action with a hatchet while slaying a serpent.
Lake Michie - May 27th - 29th
A lazy Memorial Day weekend trip to Lake Michie. Played some frisbee, some football, an ate good food. Had a nice roaring all cedar campfire Saturday night. Two of the new scouts earned their Totin' Chip. Just a nice relaxing weekend.
Mawat Spring Camporee - April 29th - May 1st
The Mawat District Camporee was held at Camp Campbell. The theme was Mawat Survivor. Walker and Jacob turned in the fastest time for the waterfront events and brought home a really nice trophy. At the Saturday night campfire, Sam and Mark were tapped out for the Order of the Arrow.
Birkhead Mountains Wilderness - March 25th - 27th
A nice little 7 miler in the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness. We arrived Friday night and set up just at the trailhead so we could get a early start in the morning. The terrain was gentle and lots of blooming plants in evidence, We were lucky in that it didn't rain until around 8pm, long after we setup and had dinner. The rain stopped in the morning so we could pack up without getting wet.
Lake Michie - February 13th - 20th
Our annual invite the Webelos to go camping freezeree. Really wasn't much of a freeze. Saturday was fairly warm in the 50's but there was a steady breeze throughout the day, finally dying off in the early evening. During the day, the Webelos went for a short nature hike wi=hile Michael and Sam worked on building the traditional bonfire. Mr Walker helped organize a pickup soccer game in the afternoon. After supper, everyone gathered at the group campfire for a flag retirement ceremony followed by joke and riddle telling. Sunday morning was a balmy 27 degrees, so it counts as a freezeree, we ate breakfast, packed up, and came home.

Winter COH and Xmas Party - December 13th
We held the winter Court of Honor to recognize several scouts' rank advancements and meritbadges earned since October. This was followed up by the annual troop Christmas Party and Dirty Santa gift exchange.
Camp Cherokee - November 5th - 7th
For a change we went to Camp Cherokee in the fall to see what it's like without 500 other scouts. Had plenty of room and the Fall colors were beautiful. We were able to finish Space Exploration MD by launching our rockets and several took advantage of all the downed tress to make shelters for Wilderness Survival MB. This was also the first cod weather trip for the winter months - 27 degrees Sunday morning but we had tons of good oak for the fire.
Council Camporee - October 8th - 10th
The theme was Return To Our Heritage. There was everything from a climbing wall to mountain man demos, tomahawk throwing, shotgun shooting, an indian village, and Brownsea Island games. Over 1800 Boy Scouts attended at Reeves and there were 2500 cubs at Durant
Hanging Rock State Park - September 10th - 12th
Our first troop trip since school started. We went to beautiful Hanging Rock State Park in the Sauertown Mountains. Saturday was mostly overcast but that didn't stop us from hiking up to the Hanging Rock to take in some awesome views. The rock itself juts out over 200 feet of open air so it definately will give one a queasy feeling looking down. We were able to see as far as Winston-Salem to the southwest and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the northeast. Saturday afternoon we experienced a few hours of rain but that didn't stop a few of the guys from going back to the rock - a 5 mile round trip. This was the largest group going so far 18 scouts and 3 adults.
Semi-Annual PLC TLT Training and Planning - August 21st - 22nd
The troop's semi-annual program planning was held at Lake Michie during an overnighter along with our first Troop Leader Training in several years. But it wasn't all work. We also brought the canoes and spent some time on the lake and then had a filling steak dinner followed up a pineapple-cherry cobbler.
Summer Camp - June 27th - July 3rd
The troop's annual summer camp at Camp Cherokee. We were blessed twice; once by being able to get our usual campsite back when the origianl occupants cancelled coming and second when the temperature broke. The 2nd half of the week was in the low 80's. As usual, Parent's night was a big hit.
Kerr Lake - May 28th - 30th
A Memorial Day weekend at the lake. We camped at Camp Campbell and invited the families to join us. After surviving a massive rainstorm Friday night, we woke to a gorgeous day. Everyone took advantage of the canoes and got in a few hours of swimming. The day was capped with a group campfire down on the lake front.
Mawat District Camporee - April 30th - May 2nd
Mawat's District Spring Camporee was held at Camp Tuscarora. The theme was old fashioned scouting since this is the 100th anniversary of the BSA. Our troop ran the lifesaving category. We also did something different for meals. We had each patrol do the shopping and preparing of one meal each.
Service Project - April 17th
Several of us went and raked up the yard of a elderly couple that asked for our help. Many hands made for light work and we were done in 2 hours.

Lake Michie - March 19th - 21st
The first real hint of Spring was with us for this weekend trip. Highs in the 70's and lows only in the 50's. This time we went tothe Holly Grove group campsite where we took advange of the isolation and huge open field to play football and a lare area game of capture the flag. Saturday night was capped by a roaring cedar wood fire.
Cherry Point - February 26th - 28th
A weekend trip to the crystal coast. We were able to stay on base at MCAS Chery Point and eat in the mess hall. Saturday we went to Fort Macon State Park and collected shells on the beach. After lunch we went to the Aquarium. After an early dinner everyone enjoyed some bowling.

Bennett Place - January 16th - 17th
An overnight hiking trip to Bennett Place to practice backpacking and the Webelos had the opportunity to join us.. Got to visit the museum and the historic buildings during the day and then had run of the site all night. It rained over and inch that night which led to a bit of car pushing "fun".


2009
Falls Lake - November 20th - 22nd
Taking advantage of places near home, we spent the weekend at Falls Lake State Park playing with rope and enjoying the lake. We were lucky that the rain held off and it wasn't too cold. We had a few firsts on this trip: this was our largest group to go camping so far - 16 boys + 4 adults! and the Rubber Duckies actually baked and frosted a 2 layer chocolate cake. Working with ropes the guys learned how to crawl across a ravine (ok, a large ditch) on a rope.
Council Camporee - October 9th - 11th
The theme was Nature, Enviroment, and Conservation. There were demonstrations from a multitude of groups and idividuals like Mr Greg Fishel teaching parts of the weather merit badge, fly fishing and fly tying from Great Outdoor Provisions Co., NC Fish and Wildlife with their mobile aquarium, NC Geocaching Society, and others. Since this was a Council camporee there were 1800 Boy Scouts and 2200 Cub Scouts.
Court of Honor - October 5th
Everyone's hard work since our spring COH was demonstrated by the awarding of 65 merit badges and 4 ranks. Afterward everyone celebrated Mr Schmid's birthday with cake and other refreshments.

Stone Mountain - September 11th - 13th
Our first trip after the summer was to Stone Mountain State Park, an imposing 600ft granite dome. We hiked up the mountain and ate lunch while enjoying the views. After a steep descent we came to the orginal owner's homestead then hiked on to the waterfalls. After climbing several hundred stairs, which finished our 5 miler, everyone relaxed back at camp before cooking dinner. The evening's activities included a rousing snipe hunt.

Summer camp at Cherokee - July 19th - 25th
The troop spent it's usual week at Camp Cherokee indulging in merit badge classes, campfire programs, twilight activities, and the ever popular trebuchet construction. The Thursday night Family night was it's usual hit with the parents treating everyone to loads of good food. This was also our troop's first large group snip hunt. I can tell everyone worked hard since The boys earned a total of 43 merit badges this week.
Scout service to the church (vehicle wash) - May 23rd
As a thank you to the church for meeting space and use of the vehicles, the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and all 4 Girl Scout troops detailed the van and bus.
Mawat District Spring Camporee - May 1st - 3rd
The spring camporee was held at Camp Tuscarora near Bentonville. The theme of shooting sports was enjoyed by all especially for our newest troop members. This camporee also marks the first group of our scouts that were selected for the Order of the Arrow in many years.
Jamestown/Yorktown - March 27th - 29th
This was a great trip. We stayed in a cabin in Jamestown after driving trough torrential rain most of the way. Saturday the troop went to the Jamestown Settlement Center to learn about the first permanent English colony in America. After lunch we proceed to the Yorktown Victory Center to learn about the final days of the American Revolution. Some of the lads even were conscripted for the cannon firing demonstration. Following a all-you-can-eat pizza dinner it was back to the cabin for more card games. The next day we returned home via the James River ferry.
Lake Michie - February 20th - 22nd
This was our annual "Take the Webelos camping and try to freeze everyone to death" trip. It was a balmy 20 degrees at night which made the campfire that much more enjoyable. Takes to Sam and Michael's hard work, we had a great Saturday night troop campfire complete with jokes and skits. This was also the trip that earned several scouts their nicknames - Sparky, Sinko, and Dude.
Snow Tubing at Hawksnest - January 24th
A simple day trip to Hawksnest for an afternoon of snow tubing. Nothing like hurling yourself down a long hill on an innertube.
